About Us

Our vision and mission

In a place like the Bay Area where STEM has been the hot topic for decades, it can be easy to forget how important the arts are to society.

From the angsty poetry graffitied on bathroom stalls to award-winning novels featured by the NYT, writers possess a unique ability to shape words into rich and powerful stories: stories that move people to think, develop, and understand. As much as writing relies on an audience, stories simply couldn’t exist without an author to experience and transcribe them. Everyone has a story to tell, and each story has the potential to reach the hearts of those around you, but it can be difficult to get your work published, especially when you’re a kid.

That’s where we step in.

The Bay Area Young Writers’ Bulletin (BAYWB) is searching for the stories you’re dying to share past your notes app, and offers a platform for the voices of young writers still waiting to be heard. BAYWB knows how important diversifying the writing world is, which is why our goal is to display the creativity of young writers in the Bay Area, with the hope of fostering a writing community and encouraging interest in the humanities.

Anyone can send in their work to be displayed on our website, regardless of their age, race, gender, sexuality, or previous publishing experience. We want to hear it – if it’s a punchy 500-word flash fiction or a sprawling work of poetry, every work deserves a place to be showcased and appreciated, and that’s exactly what we’re here to do.
